What can I know, what may I hope and what should I do? What does this
earthly existence have to offer us and what is awaiting us on the other
side? What is the reason for our existence? There are no conclusive
answers, only inspiring attempts to get a grasp on the nature of existence
through the medium of art.
The German tenor Christoph Prégardien can pride himself on an impressive
and universally praised career as a singer of opera, oratorios and songs; for
his recital at La Monnaie he has made a selection of songs and arias that
circle around the questions of life, death and everything in between. There
are no conclusive answers, but there is plenty of inspiration…
Songs of life and death
Johann Sebastian Bach, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Mahler, Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart, Robert Schumann, Franz Schubert e.a.
